Advocacy
The office of Victim Services is dedicated to providing support and guidance to victims navigating the criminal court process. Within the office, there is a designated point of contact available to furnish a comprehensive overview of the court process, respond to inquiries, facilitate connections with prosecutors, aid with court attendance, offer resources, and aid victims in accessing services following a conviction.

MISSOURI CONSTITUTIONAL VICTIMS RIGHTS
The Missouri Constitution guarantees the following rights to all victims of dangerous felony crimes.

Victims of other types of felonies or misdemeanor crimes may also request these rights by contacting the Clay County Prosecutor's Office.
YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO:

Receive information about the crime and decision regarding the filing of charges.

Be present and heard at all criminal justice proceedings at which the defendant has such a right.

Be provided with a secure waiting area during court proceedings.

Participate in criminal justice proceeding without being discharged or disciplined by an employer.

Have property returned once there is a final outcome of a case, and to have reasonable explanation if it cannot be returned.

Be notified if the defendant escapes, is released or dies.

Be informed about Crime Victims’ Compensation, receive claim forms and apply for compensation, be informed about financial, emergency and crisis intervention services in your community.

Be informed in a timely manner of court dates, continuances, and final outcomes of all court hearings.

Reasonable protection from harm and/or threats.

Be informed of procedures to apply for and receive any witness fees.

Appear at sentencing and make an oral and/or written statement.

Be informed about restitution and to ask the defendant to pay restitution.
